We’re so excited to introduce our new shop manager, Richmond Wheeler.
This is Route, in his words:
I think we are all crazy for believing in ROŪTE.
We might be as crazy as those who worked to put people into space. We might be as crazy as those who invented or improved vaccines, antibiotics, airplanes, cars, phones, computers, or the thousands of other objects and advancements that are taken for granted each day.
On second thought, considering how important human dignity and hope is, we might be the craziest. In 2008, our founders certainly were crazy enough to raise funds and open a beta version of the store understanding the risk and potential failure. Risk of failure came suddenly seven years later when it crashed unexpectedly with a very promising leader at the helm. The current team was crazy enough to pick up those pieces, patch up the wounds, and build a new version of the store, which is currently sitting on the launch pad waiting for fuel. Now the question is whether the team is crazy enough to fuel the rocket and light the fuse.
Be crazy! LET YOUR FREAK FLAG FLY!
So what can we do to help the mission of ROŪTE?
Invite people to visit ROŪTE shop where they can purchase hope and dignity for makers around the world. It really is the craziest world at ROŪTE because purchases turn into hope and dignity for the maker, and, magically, the purchaser can take hope and dignity home where they can be worn, admired, played with, or given to other people as gifts.
- Invest money and labor in ROŪTE.This is a magical place where money turns into hope and dignity. It is a doorway for hope and dignity and cultural exchange between Columbia and the rest of the world.
- #KnowTheRoute. Goods take a trip before turning into hope and dignity at the cash register. Invite people to learn how this happens and how the money spent at ROŪTE’s cash register is really a statement that human dignity and hope have value.
- Give yourself over to the craziness. Give your prayers, your love, your labor, your finances, and your time because you are crazy enough to believe that ROŪTE is a conduit for change, hope, and dignity in the world.
“Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
